Patrice Bergeron has four goals midway through the second period of the Boston Bruins game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Bergeron entered Saturday with 12 goals in his first 33 games. Bergeron's first of the night put Boston ahead 1-0 while the Bruins were skating shorthanded, beating Cam Ward low to the glove side. Bergeron's offensive night was put on hold after that, though he did a sist on a David Pastrnak goal to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead. With Boston the ahead 4-1, Bergeron netted his second of the game still in the first period when Bergeron converted on another Brad Marchand pa s, this time beating Scott Darling. Just about five minutes later, he scored his fourth of the game, setting a career-high, finishing off a pretty pa sing sequence with Marchand and Pastrnak. This is the second time this season a player has scored four goals in a game; Alex Ovechkin did so in his second game of the season for the Washington Capitals. Since 2015, there have been eight other instances of a player scoring at least four goals in a single game, including one by Bergeron's teammate David Backes, though he did so while playing for the St. Louis Blues in 2015.
