Master Sergeant John Edwards of the US Air Force had spent the last six months overseas defending his country. His family was invited to Saturday nights game against the to be recognized by the team
Pedro Leon Jersey for their sacrifice while Master Sergeant Edwards was away. The family was then asked to turn their attention to the video board for a special me sage. If the Hurricanes logo behind Edwards head wasnt a dead giveaway, he told his wife and two sons he couldnt wait to hug them.Actually, six months is long enough. Ill be right there, he said from the video board. Within a few seconds he was coming down the tunnel to see his family, who looked absolutely thrilled and relieve to get that hug.It was an emotional moment for the family, but also for many of the people in attendance. A few fans in the crowd could be seen wiping away tears. Its been nice to see a lot more of these homecomings of late. Seeing relieved families knowing their loved one is safe is one of those visuals that will always be moving.
