Starting the Africa trip in Namibia

Leonhart
I have hit almost every continent over the years, but I still haven't made it to Africa or Antarctica. Antarctica seems like it is basically just penguins and cold wind, but Africa has so much going on that it is definitely the next big goal. I decided to start exploring that part of the world with Namibia since it seems like such a huge hit with travelers. What are the spots that are a must-see for a trip like this, and where can I find a car to get around the country?

There is so much variety in the landscape out there that you could spend weeks driving and never get bored. The southern part of the country really does have its own unique character. You should definitely head out to Sossusvlei to see the massive red sand dunes because they are some of the tallest in the world. Etosha National Park is another great place to check out for seeing a lot of wildlife in a single day. It is a good idea to keep some extra water and a full tank because the distances between the small towns can be pretty long.

Planning a route through the desert takes some coordination to make sure everything goes smoothly. Having a vehicle that can handle the terrain is the best way to get around the coastal areas and the canyons on your own. You can rent a car in Namibia here: https://getrentacar.com/en-US/namibia . The site displays different models that are built for the long gravel stretches between the parks. You can find a 4x4 to handle the sections where the sand gets a bit thicker. This helps when you are carrying all your extra supplies across the remote regions.
